Great post, Danae. I've been itching to learn Modern Greek for awhile. I finally started today. I'm using the 2003 Teach Yourself course. There's also a 100% free course called Language Transfer which is in the style of Michel Thomas. Enjoying the experience so far. I'd love to see more concrete examples of your chunking method too, Don.

Thank you for doing this, could you please clarify the difference and use of: An Essential Grammar (Routledge Essential Grammars) as there is a blue comprehensive and the red essential, there is also a green modern one which is best for becoming fluent in modern greek? thank you

Most people have heard of the Trojan War, even if they know virtually nothing about Greek mythology. Paris, a Trojan prince, kidnapped Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, and her husband started a war to bring her back to Greece.

The word fraternity comes from the Latin word "frater" meaning brother. The word fraternity is often used to described not only organizations comprised of men, but also women. Originally, both groups were called fraternities because that was the only word that existed during the 1800s to describe the type of organization they were. This may be due to the fact that most of these organizations were originally started by men. In 1882, the Gamma Phi Beta women at Syracuse University began to call themselves a sorority. This was by the suggestion of their advisor who was a Professor of Latin and thought the word suited them better. The word sorority comes from the Latin word "soror" meaning sister. However by this point, many women's organizations had already been officially and legally incorporated and could not change their name. Today, many of the older "sororities" are referred to by that name, but may have the word fraternity in their official title.

This guide has four goals in mind: to offer foundation information about myths, to guide you to the myths as told from the ancient sources themselves, to get you started on scholarly research, and to show you how the myths still appear in today's culture.

Making greek yogurt is a simple process that barely needs a greek yogurt recipe. Thick, creamy, tangy greek yogurt is the perfect accompaniment to a variety of foods and a great base for a number of sauces. Making your own greek yogurt makes sure that you already have a ready supply.

To keep your yogurt starter healthy, you'll want to make a new batch of greek yogurt at least once a week using the steps below. It is very similar to the activation process, but this time you will be using yogurt from the previous batch as the starter.

Since most college campuses had a lot more male students in the 19th century, sororities started as a way to push back. With the founding of the Adelphean Society in 1851, women gained a chance to join forces around common interests. Whether singing or writing together, the Adelphean Society paved the way for Pi Beta Phi, which was the first national group for women in college.

Heading into the 20th century, sororities started popping up on campuses across America. Some focused on creating traditional sisterhood bonds, while others focused on cultural connections. Today, the National Panhellenic Conference oversees 26 Greek-letter sororities in North America. 041b061a72
